October is when I get the most questions about chemical peels. The sun is lower, the days are shorter, and that matters, because a peel and strong sun do not mix well. Fall is the easiest time of year to have one and heal well from it.
If you have been thinking about a peel, here is exactly what it is, what it does, what it costs here, and what the days after look like. No mystery, no pressure.
A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin that loosens the dull, dead layer on the surface so fresher skin can show through. It is not a facial with a fancy name, and it is not a facelift in a bottle. It is a controlled exfoliation, chosen for your skin, done by someone trained to judge how far to take it. I have been a licensed esthetician for over 15 years, and the first thing I do with any peel is a consultation, because the right peel depends on your skin, not on a trend.
At Elite Peels, I use peels most for breakouts and oil control, dullness, uneven tone, rough texture, and the fine lines that come with age and sun. Oily and acne-prone skin is where my work started, and it is still a specialty here, but peels are not only for oily skin. Dry, combination, sensitive, and mature skin can all benefit when the peel is chosen for that skin. That is the whole point of the consultation: your skin decides, not a menu.
Every service at Elite Peels starts with a consultation and a plan made for your skin. For a peel, we talk about your skin concerns, what you are using at home (especially retinoids and strong exfoliants), and what you want to change. Then I cleanse the skin and apply the peel solution. Most people feel tingling or warmth while it works, not pain. Then the solution is neutralized, and I finish with soothing products and sunscreen. You leave knowing exactly what to expect over the next few days, and what to use and what to avoid.
A chemical peel at Elite Peels is $140. That includes the consultation and a peel tailored to your skin. I will tell you honestly at the consultation if a peel is not the right first step, and what would serve you better instead.
Yes, you will peel. That is the treatment working. Most people see flaking for a few days after, and how much depends on your skin and the peel chosen. It is not dramatic for most people, but it is real, so plan around it: no big event the next day, no picking, no scrubbing. Picking at peeling skin is the one thing that can turn a good result into a mark, so hands off, even when it is tempting.
Sunscreen, every day, without exception, and especially after a peel. Your fresh skin is more sensitive to the sun, and sun exposure after a peel can undo the even tone you just paid for. Use gentle products for the first days. Pause retinoids and strong exfoliants until I tell you to restart them. A hat and shade help when you are outside. If you are unsure about a product, ask me before you use it. That is what the consultation and the follow-up are for.
Mention it at your consultation if you use prescription retinoids, if you have had a recent sunburn, or if you have an active cold sore or skin infection. Any of these can change the timing or the peel I choose. It does not mean you can never have a peel. It means we pick the right moment.
People ask me this a lot, so here is the short version. A chemical peel ($140) works on tone, breakouts, and texture by loosening the surface layer. Dermaplaning ($130) removes peach fuzz and surface dead skin with no downtime, and it leaves makeup sitting beautifully. Microdermabrasion ($135) polishes texture gently and works best as a series. If you are new here and not sure where to start, start with the Customized Facial (from $125). We will look at your skin together and build from there.
Does it hurt? Most people describe tingling or warmth, not pain. If you are nervous, tell me, and I will talk you through every step.
How often should I get one? It depends on your skin and your goals. Some people come for a series, some come seasonally. We set the plan at your consultation, and I will not sell you more than your skin needs.
When will I see results? Your skin looks fresher as the flaking finishes, and tone keeps evening out over the following weeks. A peel is a process, not an overnight change.
Can I wear makeup after? Wait until the peeling settles and I give you the go-ahead at your appointment. Your skin will thank you for the patience.
If this sounds like what your skin needs, book a consultation. We are at 8600 Sancus Blvd, Suite 118, Columbus, OH 43240, open Tuesday through Saturday. Call 614-779-2788 or book through the Book Now page. Come with your questions. I would rather answer ten of them before we start than have you guess after.
